Travel Vaccinations
This policy outlines the procedures and requirements for administering travel vaccinations within the GP practice. It ensures that patients receive appropriate immunisations in a timely manner to safeguard their health during travel.
Scope
This policy applies to all patients requesting travel vaccinations and to all staff involved in the administration of these vaccinations.
Policy Statement
To ensure the safety and well-being of our patients, the GP practice requires that all travel risk assessment forms be submitted no less than 8 weeks before the date of departure. This allows sufficient time for the Nurse to carry out the travel risk assessment, necessary vaccinations to be administered and to take effect.
Submission of Travel Risk Assessment Forms
Patients must complete and submit a travel risk assessment form at least 8 weeks before their planned date of departure.
Forms can be obtained from the practice reception or requested through the practice website.
Review and Appointment Scheduling
Upon receipt of the travel risk assessment form, the Practice Nurse will review the patient's travel itinerary and medical history.
An appointment will be scheduled for the patient to discuss their vaccination needs and to administer the necessary vaccines.
Late Submissions
Travel risk assessment forms submitted less than 8 weeks before the date of departure will not be accepted.
Patients submitting forms late will be advised to seek travel vaccination services from alternative providers, such as travel clinics or private healthcare providers.
Vaccination Administration
During the appointment, the healthcare professional will discuss the recommended vaccinations based on the patient's travel destination and medical history.
Vaccinations will be administered according to the recommended schedule to ensure maximum efficacy.
Documentation and Follow-Up
All administered vaccinations will be recorded in the patient's medical records.
Patients will be provided with a vaccination summary printout, if required, for travel purposes.
Follow-up appointments may be scheduled for additional doses or booster vaccinations, if necessary.
